Kākano Babies Room– Nurturing the Seeds of Tomorrow
Here in Kākano Room, the first chapters of life unfold through nurturing routines, warm relationships, and rich sensory exploration. Infants are precious kākano, seeds of potential, ready to grow within an environment of deep aroha, safety, and responsive care.
At Cuddly Bear Childcare, our kaiako build warm, trusting relationships with pēpi and their whānau, honouring each child’s unique rhythms, voice, and cultural identity. Our space is calm and enriched with sensory experiences, inviting babies to explore with confidence, build emotional bonds, and develop early skills through responsive, loving care
Building strong, reciprocal relationships with pēpi and whānau to foster belonging and security
Offering compassionate care that honours dignity, empathy, and respect in every routine
Weaving sustainability into everyday practices, helping pēpi connect with Papatūānuku and the natural world
Embedding te reo Māori and tikanga into rituals, songs, and interactions to celebrate bicultural identity and affirm Māori as tangata whenua
We believe that a baby’s earliest experiences shape their lifelong sense of wellbeing. In Kākano, we honour each pēpi as taonga a treasure and tend to them as we would a seed: with patience, reverence, and joy.
Mahuri Toddlers Room – Growing Strong, Rooted in Love
At Cuddly Bear Childcare, Mahuri Room is a place where our toddlers, like young saplings, are nurtured with aroha, guidance, and trust. Here, our tamariki begin to stretch their roots and rise into independence, supported by kaiako who honour each child’s mana, culture, and curiosity. Mahuri Room fosters a play-rich, sensory environment where emotional security and exploration go together.
Our responsive teaching encourages language, self-help skills, and confident social connections, laying foundations for lifelong wellbeing. Kaiako actively engage in meaningful, reflective practice, planning experiences that respond to individual interests while remaining open to the magic of unplanned learning. Through thoughtful scaffolding, rich language, and creative provocations, we extend thinking, support emotional development, and build lasting connections.
Cultural identity and nature-based exploration guide our practice, grounded in a bicultural curriculum that honours Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We celebrate each child’s uniqueness, fostering agency and belonging through responsive care, strong relationships, and an environment filled with aroha.
Mahuri Room is a space where tamariki don’t just grow, they transform. Here, they rise with courage, explore with wonder, and flourish within an environment that walks beside them, celebrating every milestone of becoming.
In Rakau room, our tamariki stand tall in a forest of belonging. They are grounded in their identity, curious in their exploration, and supported as they branch into new possibilities with courage and connection. This is a space where tamariki build resilience, leadership, and emotional strength, supported by a curriculum rich in intention, play, and whanaungatanga.
Our kaiako thoughtfully plan and reflect, weaving together responsive teaching strategies with the spontaneous learning moments that arise in play, nature, and community connections. Whether indoors with provocations or outdoors among the bush and sky, children explore, question, and grow with purpose. We nurture independence and self-belief through creative arts, problem-solving, language-rich engagement, and group learning experiences.
We honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi by embedding te reo Māori and tikanga Māori into our daily practices. Tamariki are celebrated as kaitiaki, caring for their culture and for Papatūānuku through hands-on sustainability In Rakau Room children are supported to stand strong in their sense of self and feel empowered as active participants in their learning journey. We prioritise equipping tamariki for their transition to school by building solid foundations in early literacy, numeracy, social competence, and emotional wellbeing. Through collaborative partnerships with whānau and local schools, we ensure each child’s pathway forward is gentle and affirming. School readiness is not rushed, it is woven through play, storytelling, tuakana-teina relationships, and meaningful learning that honours each child’s culture and individuality. With aroha, guidance, and joy, our preschoolers prepare to step into new adventures equipped with curiosity, capability, and a deep sense of belonging. In Rakau Room, they are rooted in care, branching toward possibility, and rising into their future with confidence.
